Before the 250 could exist, this one had to work.

This is the development prototype Otey built to prove the 4H USA 250. Every decision about this putter. The brass insert placement, the dual lead weights, the hosel offset, the hickory shaft taper. All of it was tested and resolved here before a single production piece was made. There is no other putter like it. There will never be another.

The original 4H mallet was developed by Otey II for his own use. The caption in the old catalog says it plainly: "Developed for my personal use. Has become widely accepted." That putter became one of the most recognized shapes in the shop's history. This prototype continues that lineage. It is the first object in a new chapter of it.

A formal provenance sheet will accompany this putter at the time of sale. It will document the development period, Otey's hand in the build, and the prototype's place in the creation of the 4H USA 250 run.

Brass Face Insert Precision-cut brass insert delivers firm, consistent feedback and promotes a clean, true roll with every strike.

Dual Lead Weights Lead weights placed on either side of the insert centralize the mass and reduce face twist on off-center hits.

Offset Hosel Positions the hands ahead at address and supports a smoother, more controlled face presentation through impact.

Hickory Shaft Heat-dried, hand-turned, and lacquer-sealed. Built to the same standard as every putter that came after it.

Leather-Wrapped Grip Hand-wrapped with premium leather for firm control, tactile sensitivity, and an authentic feel.

Sole Stamp Hand-applied USA stamp on the sole. The same mark carried by every putter in the production run. On this one, it came first.
